Carpet Cleaning sounds like a simple enough task doesn’t it. It’s like vacuuming or washing the dishes isn’t it? All carpet fibres have differing requirements to clean them effectively and safely. The method of construction can dictate how the cleaning needs to be carried out. There is no “one size fits all” approach. For example, understanding the chemicals different carpet fibres like (and don’t like).
The example below highlights this.
Specialist Carpet Cleaning Case Study
Working in Sandwich Bay earlier this year I had three different types of carpet to clean, all in the same house. They were all natural fibres. All three needed different methods for a safe and successful clean.
Carpet one, was a 100% Wool tufted carpet. This was a fairly straightforward clean using WoolSafe approved chemicals so that no detrimental harmful residues were left in the carpet.
Carpet two, was a Wool rich carpet that was a very low profile loop pile carpet with a jute thread crossing the Wool loops to make an interesting pattern. This was not so straightforward because the jute thread will shrink once it becomes wet. This risks distorting the carpet permanently, but also the tan colour could bleed into the light cream Wool. A different protocol was called for.
Carpet three, was Sisal cleaning success is quite limited with this type of carpet because it mustn’t be got wet. Problem one, it will shrink. Two, the natural colour will bleed out creating a light patch with a darker tide mark around the light patch. Again, a very different protocol was called for.
