Sisal Cleaning, Stain Removal and Colour Repairs
Sisal, Seagrass and Jute Carpets are not the easiest to deal with when it comes to cleaning and maintaining their appearance. Ideally these carpets should be professionally cleaned every year if they are to stand any chance of retaining their optimum appearance. Many believe that they cannot be cleaned at all and that any stains are permanent. Until now that was true.
K D Cleaning Specialists has always offered a cleaning service for this type of carpeting, but until now we have been limited when it came to offering stain removal. Most attempts at stain removal are likely to result in colour loss or bleaching, and neither of these are acceptable. However, now we can offer colour repair specially developed for this type of carpeting.
K D Cleaning Specialists has been trained in a unique new system which allows us to improve stains and colour loss so that they blend in with the rest of the carpet. Most liquid spills on these carpets will result in discolouration and/or colour loss. I have been trained to deal with the stains, and remedy the colour change by mixing up on site the colour to blend in the area.
Unlike Wool and Nylon carpet fibres, Sisal and Seagrass do not have dye sites (little pockets for dye to attach). This means they can’t be dyed in the usual sense of the word when it comes to carpet fibres. Industry standard dyes will not work or attach themselves to Sisal and Seagrass.
An industry colleague decided it was time for that to change. Already an expert in textile dye repairs, he set about developing his own brand of dyes to work on Sisal and Seagrass. After a few years of development he has come up with dyes that work. Sisal and Seagrass can now have colour added back so that the stained area blends in with the rest of the carpet.
Moisture is Sisal and Seagrass carpets enemy. It leads to colour loss and shrinkage. By using a controlled low moisture technique we can remove most stains. The downside to this technique is the area will lose colour. This is where our specialist dyes and training comes to the fore. We can add colour back to the now bleached area so that it blends in with the rest of the carpet.
This is a very time consuming process as we have to keep drying the area quickly and try again with both the stain removal and building up the colour replacement. The results may not be perfect, but in most cases it will blend in to the point that your attention is not immediately drawn to what was once an ugly stain.
