Project Description
Carpets can be made from all sorts of fibres and constructed in many different ways. From wool to plastics, from woven to flocked. All of this means very little to the consumer when the buying is led by how the carpet looks or feels.
Specialist Carpet Cleaning Case Study
To the specialist cleaner though, it’s a very different story. Understanding of the fibres and construction of a carpet are key to a safe and effective clean. Colours can bleed, and other problems can occur including dimensional stability if the correct cleaning protocol is not used.
Recently I was asked to clean some carpeting of this particular design. It is a Barber and Osgerby design. Follow this link to view more of their designs.
This carpet is made from Tibetan Wool. Tibetan Wool is an especially fine wool for carpeting. Wool is very sensitive to the cleaning products used, and whilst many carpet cleaning products will get the carpet clean, the detrimental affect on the wool can cause colour loss, colours to bleed, and for the wool to begin breaking down and crumbling. The latter effect will not be obvious on a day to day basis, but it will cause the carpet to lose fibre and wear out more quickly.
Specialist knowledge preserves your items.
So by using Wool Safe approved products and protocols this carpet was safely and effectively cleaned to the owners satisfaction. The owner can relax because there is no residue left in the carpet that can cause later harm, and the definition of the detail in the design is preserved because the colours can’t run or bleed. The definition of such a beautiful design is preserved and at the same time enhanced by the benefit of a safe clean.
